This is a video about my relationship with English, but there are so many things deeper revealed in this video.
I like the slides I put at the end of this video.
After shooting this video, I went to find all the articles I wrote, from late 2013 to mid 2017.
In early 2014, I wrote an article about a close friend from high school. That was when I started to write and create seriously.
In 2014, I spent half a year as an exchange student in Taiwan. I wrote about the people I met, the places I went, and how it changed me.
In 2016, I spent weeks writing a long essay about a TV show I loved, analyzing every episode, every character, every moment that moved me.
In 2017, I visited Melbourne and wrote about its history, its architecture, and what it felt like to walk through the city.
I also visited Bogotá that year and wrote an article about it.
After visiting different places, I wrote an essay on what travelling meant to me.
And I wrote an essay about my struggles with writing. I rewrote it a few times, because the first version wasn't good enough.
2017 was the year I deleted my writing account. I decided to stop writing.
During those years writing in Chinese, I never thought I was a good writer. I always got frustrated. Now these memories remind me how much I loved to write and create.
Now, my English might never be perfect enough for YouTube. But will it really matter?
What matters is that I am finding my voice again. That I am back on the path to my authentic self. To create, to express, and to connect.
